paintings & drawings
Born Leven, Fife 20 May 1941
Buckhaven High School from 1953 to 1959 and trained in Drawing and Painting at
Edinburgh College of Art under Sir Robin Philipson and James Cumming from 1959
to 1963. Retired from teaching in 1994 and now paint full time.
Since retiring I have had several successful one man exhibitions at the annual Pittenweem Arts Festival while contributions to other exhibitions include the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour, the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Glasgow Institute. I have paintings in private collections both in this country and abroad.
Apart from the college years spent in Edinburgh, I have lived all my life in Fife and find that I do not need to venture far beyond to find inspiration and subjects for my work. The structure of the Fife landscape, its coastline and its ever changing light are all demonstrated in my pictures.
In recent years, interesting new ventures have included the illustration of several books for Fife Council and a triptych for the offices of Scottish Engineering in Glasgow.
Most recently, I have put into book form, my teaching methods and personal thoughts about the creation of landscape paintings which I use with amateur artists and weekend painters in local art clubs and societies.
